My dear reader, how are you? السلام علیکم
Wishing you happy 70th Independence Day of Pakistan
The commemorations are marked by a number of attractive images, iconic signs and colorful presentation. New and innovative apps like GIF in bright colors, animations and sounds are going round and round the cell phones, laptops and all forms of computers. And a lot many are enjoying their face painting. Youth needs motion, music and colors to say Wow!
I am also a Pakistani, senior than youth, who can recall from memory, from books on Pakistan study and all other sources of history. I am crying, please know my tragedy. Who killed my first Prime Minister (PM)? What was wrong with him? If a mad killer killed him or CIA did it, what did I do till today, to get justice from ICJ, or other international bodies to get some form or kind of redress? Next was Khawaja Nazimuddin, he stayed in office for less than two years. The Governor General (GG) Ghulam Muhammad, playing villain, sent his government packing. He was followed by Muhammad Ali Bogra, termed imported PM, was sent packing by Iskandar Mirza (GG), in a little over two years. Ch. Muhammad Ali stayed in for a year and a little plus. He resigned; the reason was Iskander Mirza. Hussain Shaheed Suharwardy took over in 1956 and he too resigned the very next year. The reason was again same GG. I. I. Chundrigar was PM for two months! Why, why?? Isn’t it my tragedy? Feroze Khan Noon was next, took over in 1957 and could not see the end of 1958. Iskander Mirza called in C-in-C, in to become Minister of Defence, only to follow his orders to impose Martial Law (ML) at selected places. No one knows who governed the country and how, from Oct 7th to 24th 1958. Now it was Field Marshal (FM) Muhammad Ayub Khan and his ten years long ML. FM deposed Iskander Mirza, who later died in exile. Isn’t it my tragedy? The Constitution given two years ago had been abrogated. A new Constitution was given to the Country, by self-proclaimed President. It was said to be constitution by the President and for the President. Next Constitution came up in 1973. Nurul Amin was my PM for less than a month! It is my tragedy, isn’t it? You know who appointed him; Gen A M Yahya Khan. Mark these fateful years, for me, the Pakistani; 1954, 58, 69 and then 1971. Z A Bhutto was hanged to death on the orders of Courts! Did he kill anyone? My next PM M. K. Junejo was elected in 1985, to be fired in 88. Why and who has been doing this me? Then Benazir Bhutto, a popular PM, was removed by Farooq Leghari on the charges of corruption and mis-governance, why? What was proven against her? She was killed on roads just after a public meeting in the Liaqat Bagh; the Bagh where first PM was slain. Who killed her, who has been apprehended? And punished for killing her, who? Mustafa Jatoi came in and left. Nawaz Sharif elected PM, sent packing by G I Khan in less than three years’ time. His next tenure was less than a year! Why all this? Where did I fail? Where is my collective identity!
Why I have been dishonored and disrespected time and again. Yousuf Raza Gilani came in and was convicted by the courts; Raja Pervez Ashraf was to follow him. Were they all cheats, scoundrels and plunderers; where lies the fault? Have three MLs mutated the polity and its systems? But why did GG dissolve Constituent Assembly; it was 1954! And C J Munir made it possible!
Making no mention of Balakh SMazari, Moeenuddin A Qureshi, Malik Mehraj Khalid and Zafarullah K. Jamali; they were my PM too. So were Ch. Shujjat Hussain, Shaukat Aziz (completed Parliamentary term; 3 years) and Muhammad Mian Soomoro. They also ran! Do not I need an icon of my sovereignty, and symbol of my government, its chief executive? Imran Khan and Bilawal Bhutto, the probable PMs- to be are calling my incumbent PM, Shahid K. Abbasi a puppet, a spare plug and Railo Katta! What a pity. Why I am disrespected? Please do not slap the common face. It is ours.
